Founded in 1978 as Rural Community Assistance Corporation, RCAC works across the rural West and in tribal communities to support critical community development and infrastructure needs.

RCAC’s work includes water, wastewater and solid waste facilities; affordable housing development; community resilience and disaster planning; economic and leadership development; and community development finance. LEH has partnered with RCAC on a variety of projects to support and build organizational capacity. After the retirement of the organization’s long-term leader, the new CEO and Board leadership retained LEH to support RCAC through a planning process that engaged stakeholders, supported deep Board involvement and ushered in a new chapter for the organization. RCAC chose LEH to lead the effort in the fall of 2019. Then COVID hit, and LEH facilitated a series of conversations to shift the planning process to reflect the current pandemic realities while also providing RCAC with needed direction. LEH supported the delivery of a flexible strategic framework that could provide focus while also allowing for flexibility. LEH and RCAC then co-created an executive leadership and personal coaching program designed to support individuals through a time of significant change. Today, RCAC’s annual operating budget has topped $46 million with more than 200 employees. LEH continues its support of RCAC’s leaders and individuals across the organization thanks to a forward-thinking, staff-centered culture that invests resources to support team member well-being and success.
